Specialists for Liquid and Bulk Cargo
Many of the port operations in the Seaports of Niedersachsen have specialised in the transshipment of bulk cargo. One example is coal which is transshipped in the ports and stored temporarily before being taken to power plants in the hinterland when required.
Furthermore, agricultural products such as grain, feeding stuff, oil seeds, food-affine products and renewable primary products are transshipped, stored and processed in the Seaports of Niedersachsen, including just-in-time deliveries to customers. Certifications according to GMP, QC and O +S vouch for high quality in the transshipment and storage of grain and feeding stuff of vegetable origin.
Apart from fertilizers and minerals as well as peat, rock salt or scrap metal, it is mainly building materials (sand, grit, gravel) which are unloaded for the local construction industry.
Moreover, the combined Seaports of Niedersachsen constitute Germany's largest transshipment centre for liquid and gaseous cargo with extensive fuel depots and high-capacity transshipment plants for chemical products, crude oil and mineral oil products. VLCC tankers regularly call at the coast of Niedersachsen to unload their valuable cargo at the deep moorings. The port locations of Niedersachsen provide extensive storage capacities for interim storage of mineral oil for stockpiling in case of crisis and also for spot market deals. The crude oil is processed to mineral oil products on site. In addition there are several refineries connected by pipelines.
